Russell Day has over 30 years of experience helping organizations build workforce capabilities by better leveraging their human capital. He specializes in executive assessment and leadership development, executive coaching, succession planning, performance management systems, teambuilding and organizational development. He has extensive experience applying a broad range of organizational development practices and tools to improve individual and organizational capabilities.
Russell has worked with a wide variety of clients across multiple industries, including CNA Insurance, BP, A. M. Castle & Co., Applied Systems, USG, Abbott Laboratories, Tri-Arrows Aluminum, Amgen, Cadence Health, Valley Oil, Marriott International, Takeda Pharmaceutical, St. Anthony’s Hospital, W. W. Grainger, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, and The Salvation Army.
Business and Career Background
Before launching his consulting practice in 1999, Russell served as a VP of management consultancy at Vernon, Roche and Hodgson, Inc. (VRH). During his tenure, he worked with various clients to enhance workforce capabilities and provide consulting services in talent selection and development, organizational effectiveness, executive coaching, and succession planning. Prior to that, Russell served as an Amoco Corporation consultant within the measurement and assessment practice area of the Organizational Capability Group. In this role, he developed integrated staffing methodologies, processes, and plans to help enhance organizational capabilities through systems such as competency modeling, succession planning and career development. Russell also helped his clients apply sound measurement and assessment principles.
Prior to joining Amoco, Russell was the AVP of Human Resources Development at the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company. He was responsible for all corporate HR initiatives and programs, including the design and validation of selection systems, executive assessment and succession planning, management training, career development, performance management, and organizational research. Russell has also worked as a consultant with William M. Mercer, Inc., where he provided services in a wide variety of human resource management areas and specialized in personnel selection systems, job analysis, performance management systems, succession planning and organization development.
Education and Certifications
Russell holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Memphis and a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, Society for Human Resources Management, Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology and the American Society for Training and Development. He is also a past president of the Chicago Industrial/Organizational Psychologists. Russell holds certifications in 16PF, California Personality Inventory, DiSC, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Hogan Personality Inventory, Hogan EQ, SHL OPQ32, and FIRO-B.
